The already very well equipped Foton Tunland double cab premium one-ton pick-up range has been further enhanced to provide even better value for money. The latest improvements include the addition of Bluetooth with multi-function controls on the steering wheel of the Luxury derivatives for hands-free communication. There has also been a general upgrading of the interior finishes on all models.

The Tunland, which has been developed for international markets, was launched in South Africa initially only as a double cab 4×4 in 2012. Subsequently a 4×2 double cab followed and since then there has been the introduction of single cab 4×2 bakkie derivatives in On Road workhorse and Off Road configurations with specifications to match.

Prices of the double cab models are very competitive, ranging from R294 950 for the 4×2 Comfort to R369 950 for the 4×4 Comfort. In each case a higher specification Lux model is available at a price premium of R20 000. Among the added specification items are leather seats, rear park distance control and an improved audio system.

The scene was set for the introduction of the Foton Tunland in South Africa by a successful launch test drive with 4×4 double cabs over the very rough and demanding Baboon’s Pass in Lesotho. This venture went a long way to showing the calibre of this new bakkie range even before it was launched and the company is now building on this rugged reputation as the range expands.

The Tunland not only matches up or beats its premium range rivals in terms of its overall performance, but it also has one of the most spacious interiors in the premium one-ton pick-up market. Its load box dimensions are very competitive too.

The Cummins ISF engine, which powers all the Tunland double cab models, develops 120kW of power at 3 600r/min and 360N.m of torque at 1 800r/min, is one of the few power units fitted to a pick-up in SA which complies with Euro IV emission regulations.

The Cummins ISF engine is economical on fuel with a combined cycle figure of 8,3l/100km, while their emission rating is only 219gm/km.

The Tunland is equipped with all the safety, convenience and security features required at the top end of the one-ton pick-up market in SA.

There are also a number of approved accessories available for the Tunland, including two towbars (the vehicle has a towing capacity of 2 500kg), underbody protection plates, nudge bar, side steps, Beekmans canopy and mat sets.

Both the Comfort and Lux models come with side steps, while the Lux model is fitted, as standard, with a rollover bar on the load box and a tonneau cover, these items are available as accessories for the Comfort model.

The Tunland is made at Foton’s ultra-modern, multi-function manufacturing plant in Beijing and will be exported in built-up form to global destinations.

The Foton Tunland is sold and marketed countrywide and is covered by a

3-year/100 000km warranty, three-year corrosion warranty and roadside assistance for three years, while the 4×2 double cabs also have the benefit of a

2-year/40 000km service plan, included in the retail price. The service interval of 10 000km means that less costly 500ppm diesel fuel may be used.
