Tutankhamen, Howard Carter and the Curse of the Mummy

On the 9th May 2012 the Google Doodle of Howard Carter reminded the world of the existence of Howard Carter. May 9, 2012 would have marked his 138th Birthday. He was born in England on the 9th of May 1874. Howard Carter discovered one of the best preserved Egyptian Pharaohs and Tombs in Egypt.

He found the now famous Tutankhamen Tomb on the 4th of November 1922. He was involved with archaeology from an early age and played an important role in the history of Egyptian Archaeology. According to Wikipedia he arrived in Egypt when he was only 17 years old.

Howard CarterThe most famous Egyptian pharaoh today is, without doubt, Tutankhamen. However, before the spectacular discovery of his almost intact tomb in the Valley of the Kings in November 4, 1922, Tutankhamen was only a little known figure of the late 18th Dynasty. It was Howard Carter and Lord Carnarvon who discovered the Tomb of “Tutankhamen”.

The discovery of the Tutankhamen is one of the most famous Egyptian historical finds to date. The Howard Carter discovery, found more than 3,000 treasures which were buried with Tutankhamen in his grave. Today these historical treasures which consist of Gold, Jewelry and Art can be found in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo.

In 1948 the Japanese Government declared “Children’s Day” and announced it as a public holiday.
