Volvo S60 earns top result in severe offset crash test

Volvo Car Corporation’s leadership in vehicle safety is once again highlighted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). In the latest report the Volvo S60 is one out of only two cars to earn the best rating in IIHS’s new offset frontal crash test.

In the new test, 25 percent of the car’s front end on the driver’s side strikes a rigid barrier at 40 mph (64 km/h), with a Hybrid III dummy belted into the driver seat. The test is designed to replicate what happens when the front corner of a car collides with another vehicle or an object like a tree or utility pole.

VOLVO SAFETY WORLD FIRST SET TO HELP FURTHER REDUCE THE 1.3 MILLION PEOPLE KILLED ON ROADS

The world’s first pedestrian airbag fitted as standard on the all-new Volvo V40 is the next step towards the manufacturers target that no-one should be killed or injured in a new Volvo by 2020.

The revolutionary new airbag is launched one year after Volvo, as a strategic partner of the Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety (PACTS), joined road safety experts and MPs to set the blueprint in the UK for safer roads over the next 10 years with the launch of the United Nations Decade of Action for Road Safety.  Volvo’s new Pedestrian Airbag will go some way to help further reduce the number of fatalities involving pedestrians, currently 14 per cent in Europe and 25 per cent in China.

Volvo City Safety Technology Drives Down Chauffeur Company At Fault Rear Impact Accidents

  • Volvo’s City Safety technology helps chauffeur company, Tristar, improve customer safety and reduce vehicle-off-road costs

When truck driver Flávio Ibarra Garcia gets behind the wheel to drive between Brazil, Argentina and Chile, he knows he is setting out on a risky assignment. Every year, 37,000 people die in the traffic in Brazil and 4,000 of them are truck drivers. However, he also knows that more than 90% of traffic accidents are due to the driver’s behaviour and that he has a real influence when it comes to road safety.

Volvo S60 and V60 get five star safety ratings in Europe and the United States

  • Volvo Car Corporation’s safety leadership is once again confirmed by full star results on both sides of the Atlantic.
  • The Volvo V60 received five stars and has been named best car in the Large Family category in the 2011 Euro-NCAP rating.
  • In the United States, the Volvo S60 achieved an overall five star NHTSA crash test rating.
