COYS annual Autosport International auction, the first international auction held in 2012, underlined the continuing strength in the historic and specialist car market worldwide.

The Eleanor Mustang which sold for £97,000

Excellent prices were achieved, most notable being £117,000 for a 1973 Ferrari Dino, £85,000 for the Alan Mann GT40 continuation, £97,000 for the famous Mustang GT from the film Gone In 60 Seconds, and £91,000 for an Ascari KZ1R.

AT AUTO EXPO 2012 – COOPER AND RICARDO UNVEIL BRAND NEW FOUR AND SIX-CYLINDER ENGINE FAMILY

Ricardo and Cooper Corporation of India have further underscored their long-standing and highly successful collaboration with the launch of a new range of engines for both automotive and off-highway applications. 

The new in-line four and six-cylinder engines announced at Auto Expo 2012 – India’s premier international automotive event – will respectively provide power ranges of 100-125 kW and 156-200 kW and are targeted at both the Indian and international markets. In addition to powering the latest automotive products, the new engines are targeted at a wide range of off-highway and industrial applications ranging from large fork-lift trucks, to generator sets and construction equipment including earth movers.

Proving that motor sport is both more affordable and more accessible than many believe, the ‘Join Your Local Motor Club’ showcase at the National Exhibition Centre will not only feature an array of inexpensive competition vehicles but also be manned by members of car clubs from the region around Birmingham’s NEC complex.

1973 Ford Mustang Mach 1 from ‘Gone in 60 Seconds’

The star of the 1974 film ‘Gone in 60 Seconds’ was undoubtedly the 1973 Ford Mustang Mach 1 named Eleanor. When the producers of the 2000 remake were looking for a car to feature in a climactic chase sequence, another mustang was the natural choice. In order to stand out amongst the array of exotic sports cars also featuring in the movie, it was decided that the Mustang would need to be something special.
