Frankfurt. With five world premieres, Mercedes-Benz is setting the benchmark at the 2013 Frankfurt International Motor Show for automotive passion and innovation. Each one of the newcomers perfectly embodies in its own way the motto of the show “Fascination Mercedes”; the new GLA, the first compact SUV with the three-pointed star, as well as four groundbreaking new S-Class models. Ahead of the Frankfurt Motor Show, Mercedes-Benz caused a sensation with its pioneering achievement in the field of autonomous driving at the end of August.
Jaguar has unveiled the first SUV in its history – the C-X17 concept – at Frankfurt, but design director Ian Callum admits that for a long time he felt uncomfortable about doing it.
“At Jaguar we are used to designing low cars and this is the exact opposite,” Callum says. “I didn’t feel comfortable with the idea, although there were a lot of people within the company who did. But it is what a whole generation wants, especially in places like China. During the development of the F-TYPE the information came back that their idea of a performance car is one of these.”
PEUGEOT designers and engineers have designed an audacious, intuitive and modern hatchback with a pure and sleek design. Utilising the accomplished EMP2 (Efficient Modular Platform 2), the new PEUGEOT 308 has compact dimensions (4.25m) and a much reduced weight compared to its predecessor (-140kg).
