Cologne. Before they get down to business on day one of the BMW International Open on Thursday, four of the 156-strong field at the only European Tour event in Germany were in action in front of the camera for a one-off video at Golf Club Gut Lärchenhof.

In the ensuing 3:03-minute clip, the ground-breaking BMW i8 catches the eye of BMW Golfsport Ambassador Maximilian Kieffer and Germany’s highest-ranked amateur Dominic Foos, who are on an electric golf buggy. At the wheel of the innovative plug-in hybrid sports car, which boasts the same consumption and emission figures as a compact car, are world number two Henrik Stenson of Sweden and his Spanish passenger Sergio García.

The two German youngsters were understandably keen to experience life behind the wheel of the BMW i8, so Stenson offered Kieffer and Foos a very appealing bet. What followed was an extraordinary race, in which the German duo had to use all their cunning.
