Tarek Atta was appointed managing director of GM Egypt and North Africa, effective January 1, 2013. He is based in Cairo, Egypt.
Atta joined GM Egypt upon its establishment in 1984 as a process engineer. He later held assignments with various departments, including Manufacturing, Product Planning, Global Purchasing and Supply Chain, Engineering and Program Management. Atta helped launch several products while expanding GM’s manufacturing capability in Egypt.
In 2001, he became GM Egypt’s director of Manufacturing, Engineering, Product Planning and Program Management. Atta took over as director of Sales, Marketing and Aftersales at GM Egypt in January 2010. Prior to taking on his present position, he served as GM North Africa vice president of Vehicle Sales, Service and Marketing since July 2012.
Atta received a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Saudi Arabia’s King Abdul Azeez University in 1982.
