JANUARY 2013 NAAMSA RETAIL SALES
Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa’s response
- Ford Focus records best volume month since launch
- Ford Figo claims Top 4 passenger car sales position
- FMCSA looks forward to an unprecedented number of new vehicle launches in 2013
PRETORIA, South Africa, 04 February, 2013 – Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa (FMCSA) has enjoyed a solid start to the 2013 sales year with Ford sales up 12 % when compared to the same period last year.
The market continues to be driven by entry-level volumes with Figo claiming fourth position overall in the passenger market with 1 202 units sold. Focus enjoyed its highest volume month since launch with 423 models finding new owners, while the all-new Fiesta enjoyed a solid month (488) despite going on sale midway through the month.
Ranger was January’s second biggest volume export in the LCV segment with 1255 units. The outlook for Ranger volumes in 2013 are high, off the back of a record year in 2012 with 15 804 units sold.
The South African new vehicle market continued to climb in January (55 007), following a strong performance in 2012 that saw the market outperform expectations.
“In 2012 the South African market enjoyed a year of solid growth despite a slowing economy. This year growth is expected to be somewhat abated, however the prospects remain positive,” said FMCSA’s Vice President Marketing, Sales and Service, Dean Stoneley.
Total market volumes are expected to improve by 7.3% in 2013 according to the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of SA (Naamsa). A slight decline on the 9.2% improvement experienced in 2012.
“Despite the softer outlook for the market in 2013, we have high expectations for Ford. We have an unprecedented number of new vehicle introductions this year, and with new models like the Transit and the EcoSport joining our range, we enter segments we have not previously participated in, allowing us to attract new and diverse customers.”
