VOLKSWAGEN COMMERCIAL VEHICLES INCREASES WORLDWIDE DELIVERIES FOR MAY YTD BY 3.5 PER CENT

VOLKSWAGEN COMMERCIAL VEHICLES INCREASES WORLDWIDE DELIVERIES FOR MAY YTD BY 3.5 PER CENT

Hannover, June 13, 2012: In the first five months of this year, Europe’s leading manufacturer of light commercial vehicles, MPVs and leisure vehicles delivered 220,500 vehicles worldwide.  This represents a growth of 3.5 percent compared to the same period last year (January – May 2011: 213,000 vehicles).

Amarok deliveries worldwide rose by 31.7 per cent to 30,500 vehicles (January – May 2011: 23,100). Deliveries of the Crafter went up by 37.0 per cent to 19,800 vehicles (January – May 2011: 14,400). The T5 Series rose by 0.4 per cent to 66,300 deliveries (January – May 2011: 66,100), while worldwide deliveries of the Caddy went down by 3.1 per cent to 63,200 vehicles (January – May 2011: 65,200).

Deliveries of the Brand in Western Europe from January to May 2012 were up by 1.3 per cent, to 117,900 vehicles (January – May 2011: 116,400).

In Eastern Europe deliveries to the end of May went up by 32.7 per cent to 17,400 vehicles (January – May 2011: 13,100).  Germany was the highest volume European market for Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles in the first five months of 2012, with a growth of 5.3 per cent to 50,800 customer deliveries (January – May 2011: 48,200).

‘While the segment of urban delivery vehicles, vans, and pickups is somewhat down on some markets, or figures are stagnating, this is offset by the market shares which have been won by our models.  This sets us apart from our competitors and the general market environment. We are keeping a very close eye on the tense situation in several markets, however, and we are acting with careful consideration”, emphasises Bram Schot, Member of the Executive Management for Sales and Marketing for Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles.

The most vigorous region for deliveries outside Europe for Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles was again South America, where, with 55,700 deliveries, 2.3 per cent fewer vehicles were handed over to customers (January – May 2011: 57,000).  Deliveries of the Saveiro were down by 10.3 per cent to 30,400 units (January – May 2011: 33,800), while the T2 was up by 0.4 per cent to 10,400 deliveries (January – May 2011: 10,350)
