Unimog delivers Christmas Trees

Unimog delivers Christmas Trees

The same procedure as every year: Unimog transports heavy Christmas trees

  • Mercedes-Benz Unimog U 400 transports 3.5-tonne spruce measuring 17 metres from Wald-Michelbach to Walldorf

Every year in November there is a very special task awaiting Mercedes-Benz Unimog vehicles all over Germany: mighty firs and spruces have to be fetched from the forests and taken to market squares and other destinations such as company headquarters. This work is done by specialists such as Norbert Emig from Wald-Michelbach in the Odenwald.

Emig specialises in the transport of these very heavy conifers. He chops them down, carries them to their destinations and sets them up. His absolutely essential assistant is his new forest-green Unimog U 400 with a maximum GVW of 11.99 tonnes and 210 kW (286 hp) of power. With its crawling ability at a speed of only 1.5 km/h, its off-road chassis and large tyres with coarse treads it manages to do its work over any kind of terrain. Its relatively narrow width of only 2.30 m and extreme manoeuvrability even allow it work successfully in inner city areas which sometimes have very narrow access roads.

Unimog Deliver Christmas Tree

This year, the farmer and agricultural technician, Norbert Emig, has already transported a number of heavy trees ready for Christmas 2012. One of these trees weighing 3.5 tonnes and with a length of 17 metres recently had to be transported overnight to a well-known company in Walldorf. Now the spruce from Odenwald is standing in front of the main entrance of SAP and giving everybody a Christmas feeling.
