Two old favourites join the Rand Easter Show funfair lineup

Two old favourites join the Rand Show’s funfair lineup

Looping Star at Rand Show 2012

It’s been parked silently on its aerial rail for many a year now, but this year, the Rand Show’s monorail has been given a new lease of life. From 6-15 April 2012, Rand Show visitors will once again be able to enjoy a scenic 1.2-kilometre roundtrip above the showgrounds.

At eight metres off the ground, the monorail is sure to hit a high note with showgoers. But if it’s sheer vertigo-defying heights you’re after, then get in line for yet another oldie-but-goodie.

A grand dame of Rand Shows gone by, the fabled Looping Star roller coaster is back. Rather more electrifying than the scenic ride of the monorail, the train on the Looping Star will pull you 20 metres into the sky before dropping you upside down into the legendary loop, at speeds of over 60 kilometres an hour.

But that’s not the only thrill awaiting you. This old favourite will be joined by a host of other thrill-generating Rand Show funfair regulars. Do you have what it takes to survive the 17-metre free-fall of theDropTower, the G-force power of the Quasar, or the free-falling sensations of the Crazy Wave?

If you’re feeling dizzy already, give your stomach a break on some of the less daunting of the Rand Show 2012’s amusement rides. With over 30 different rides on offer, there’s sure to be something to suit all tastes.

Like this family-favourite: the Big Wheel. It may not be the fastest, but it’s certainly the tallest. Climb into a gondola and let the Big Wheel take you 20 metres up for wonderful views over the Joburg skyline.

The kids will love a ride on the Rodeo Horses, Crazy Bus or Harley Davidson bikes, or a buzzing flight on the Bumble Bees. And for adrenalin-junkies-in-training, the Crazy Worm Coaster is the ideal treat.

With all this on offer, not to mention simulators and game stalls with great prizes, the funfair at the Rand Show 2012 promises to be a thrilling experience for the whole family this Easter.

Funfair tickets have been frozen at last year’s prices: R10 each, with between one and three tickets needed per ride.

Most other Rand Show attractions however, including the new-and-exclusive Canadian high dive act, bird and reptile shows, circus workshops, fun and games at the Kids Theatre, SANDF displays, and daily circus shows, are included free in the price of your Rand Show admission ticket.

So come and enjoy an entertaining day out with the family this Easter holiday, atSouth   Africa’s biggest consumer show – the Rand Show 2012.
