PROFILE: CAROLYN SWAN
Carolyn was born on September 14, 1969, and is the daughter of respected motor racing photographer, Roger Swan. She was exposed to motor sport at a very early age and after years of watching racing with her father she entered sealed odometer rallies as a navigator in 1992.
She graduated to national rallies in 1994 and has been a co-driver ever since. Today she is one of South Africa’s leading female co-drivers. She joined Team Total in 1998 and has been with the largest privateer Toyota team ever since.
Carolyn has won every class in which she has competed (N1, N3, A5 and A6) with the exception of S2000, and has amassed a total of eight class titles to date.
In 2010 she scored two podium finishes with Team Total driver Jean-Pierre Damseaux in a Toyota RunX in her first season in the top S2000 class, finishing the season seventh overall and second (first South African) in the Privateers’ Championship.
In 2011 she and Damseaux finished 10th and enjoyed three top-five finishes, finishing sixth among the privateers.
A Johannesburg-based bookkeeper, she is a keen horse rider and her taste in music includes Meatloaf. Her favourite food is pizza.
In 2012 she joins Elvene Coetzee (co-driver to Leeroy Poulter) in the factory Toyota Motorsport team to form a unique all-woman navigating partnership. She will read the route notes for Johnny Gemmell in a Class S2000 Team Castrol Toyota Auris.
