PROF. DR. MARTIN WINTERKORN RECEIVES HONORARY DOCTORATE IN RECOGNITION OF ‘INNOVATION- AND TECHNOLOGY-DRIVEN FOCUS’
Wolfsburg/Munich, November 30, 2012: The President of Technische Universität München, Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Herrmann, yesterday presented the CEO of Volkswagen AG with the honorary academic title of ‘Dr. Ing. e.h.’.
The honorary doctorate was conferred on Prof. Dr. Martin Winterkorn in the presence of the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Volkswagen AG, Prof. Dr. Ferdinand Piëch, during celebrations marking the tenth anniversary of the TUM School of Management.
Technische Universität München awarded the honorary doctorate in recognition of the Volkswagen Group’s development and strategic alignment under Winterkorn’s leadership, paying special tribute to the innovation- and technology-driven focus. President Herrmann commented: ‘This outstanding economic and technical achievement on the part of Martin Winterkorn is particularly noteworthy at the interface between technology and management.’
Winterkorn said: ‘Technische Universität München is one of the top universities in Germany and on the international stage. One reason for that is the open and intense cooperation between academia and industry. For that reason, this title is a great honour both for Volkswagen and for me personally.’
