PRIME MINISTER VISITS SYSTEM TRAINING

PRIME MINISTER VISITS SYSTEM TRAINING

Prime Minster David Cameron MP visited System Training’s headquarters today to meet apprentices.

In a visit to Carlisle, Mr Cameron chose System Training, the UK’s largest logistics training provider and key provider of apprenticeship training, to meet with apprentices and talk about what the Government is doing to encourage more people to take them up.

During the visit, the Prime Minister met some of System Training’s motor vehicle apprentices during a training session in a garage workshop. He also spoke with Eddie Stobart logistics apprentices – part of a unique industry coalition where System Training has partnered with the well-known logistics provider to deliver a innovative apprenticeship programme.

Mr Cameron took the opportunity to meet with System Training’s chief executive Robin Brown and director of learning Tony Higgins to share views on the benefits of apprenticeship programmes and detail the government’s commitment to vocational training.

System Training has a special relationship with many employers and serves to seamlessly link schools, businesses and learners through intelligent training applications. Its vision for the logistics industry will see it establish a national network of apprenticeship academies across the UK to allow more young people to access the logistics industry.

The UK logistics sector is expected to create more than 500,000 new jobs over the next six years and only 9% of the workforce is aged between 16 and 24-years-old. Apprenticeships will help both employers and young people meet these targets and System Training is expected to lead the push to rejuvenate the sector.

Addressing the apprentices, Prime Minister David Cameron, said: “It’s great to be here this morning because what you do really matters. There’s no more pressing job facing this country than building a growing, balanced and modern economy that can create worthwhile jobs for our people. And what you are learning, and teaching, here today is vital to achieving that.”

System Training chief executive Robin Brown said: “We are delighted that System Training has been chosen to represent apprenticeship providers in the area and have our results and achievements within apprenticeship delivery acknowledged by the Prime Minister. We all share a passion for apprenticeships and it’s great to hear the government confirm their commitment to apprenticeships and training for our young people.”
