Goodyear to auction 1:1 scale LEGO truck for charity

Goodyear to auction 1:1 scale LEGO truck for charity

IAA stand model to be sold on eBay for drivers’ health charity

Goodyear Lego Truck

Goodyear has built a 1:1 scale futuristic LEGO truck for the 2012 IAA Commercial Vehicle show, which takes place in Hanover, Germany from 20-27 September. From 19-29 October 2012 the unique model will be auctioned on eBay to benefit the European commercial vehicle drivers’ initiative DocStop for Europeans e.V. The huge model has been autographed by leading German entertainer, the ‘King of Majorca’ Jurgen Drews, who is a supporter of DocStop.

The Goodyear LEGO truck is one of the most unique exhibits at the IAA Commercial Vehicle show.  At 2.5 meters wide, 3.5 meters high, about 2.5 meters long and weighing approximately 740 kg, it is among the largest LEGO models in the world. It was built using about 250 000 LEGO bricks, and a total of 410 hours was invested in the planning and construction of the truck.  After the show the model, which boasts Goodyear marathon LHSII+ tyres, will be offered for sale on the world’s largest online marketplace, eBay (ebay.de and pages.ebay.de/starsandcharity).  The eBay auction of the Goodyear truck will run for 10 days from 19-29 October 2012.  All the money raised will be donated by Goodyear to DocStop, offering professional drivers medical care while they are travelling. The aim is to provide every truck driver in Europe with quick and easy access to a doctor if needed.

Among the supporters of this initiative is the popular German entertainer Jurgen Drews.  Drew, who is knows as the ‘King of Majorca’, signed the LEGO truck on the Goodyear stand during the IAA Commercial Vehicle show.

“I am delighted to support Goodyear with this charity auction for DocStop.  It is not easy for truck and bus drivers to get medical help when they are working away from home,” said Drews as he signed the LEGO truck in Hanover.

“We very consciously decided to support Doc Stop with this auction.  The transport industry’s greatest asset are the drivers, who make sure that goods get from A to B and arrive on time every day.  Unfortunately medical care is not always guaranteed on the road, especially when a driver travels abroad.  Thanks to DocStop, professional drivers now have a contact point through which they can get medical help.  We are of course very happy to support this organisation,” said Rupert Kohaupt, Director Commercial Tyres, Goodyear Tyres in Germany.

Thanks to DocStop, European truck and bus drivers who need medical attention can drive directly with their vehicles to a DocStopo partner (doctor’s surgery, hospital, etc.) or leave the vehicle at a stop point and go to a nearby doctor. Almost all participating doctors have agreed to see professional drivers without long waits.
