On the June 17, 2012 the world will celebrate international Father’s Day. The purpose of Father’s day is to celebrate fathers, paternal bonds and fatherhood. It also celebrates the role of fathers and the positive influence that fathers have on society in general. In most countries around the world international Father’s day are celebrated on the 3rd Sunday in the month of June.
Brief History of Father’s Day
From the research that we have done it seems like the first International Fathers day were first celebrated in 1910. It was founded in 1910 by Sonora Smart Dodd who was born in Arkansas USA. According to Wikipedia “Sonora Smart Dodd” was the driving force behind the establishment of Father’s Day. It was first celebrated in the USA on June 19, 1910. After hearing a sermon about Jarvis’ Mother’s Day in 1909, she told her pastor that fathers should have a similar holiday honoring them. Although she initially suggested June 5, her father’s birthday, the pastors hadn’t enough time to prepare their sermons, and the celebration was deferred to the third Sunday of June.
In 1972 President Richard Nixon signed into Law that Father’s Day a public holiday will be held each year on the third Sunday of June. In addition to Father’s Day, International Men’s Day is celebrated in many countries on November 19 for men and boys who are fathers.
Google Father’s Day Doodles
This year it is likely that we will see Google celebrating father’s day with a Google Doodle. In the past Google have announced father’s day with various father’s day doodles on the Google FrontPage.
