Alesha Dixon lit up Spinnaker Tower with Nissan LEAF

This was not just any light switch on.  For one night only, the Spinnaker Tower lights were powered by the charge from a Nissan LEAF, the world’s first mass-produced 100% electric family car.

The award winning 100% electric vehicle, which provides up to 109 miles on one charge, was  specially converted to allow the power of the battery to be extracted.

The event, which took place at 9.30pm at the Gunwharf Quays landmark, was staged as part of Nissan’s The Big Turn On campaign, an initiative designed to raise awareness of the low-carbon benefits of 100% electric vehicles.

A live performance by the popular singer and Nissan campaign ambassador followed the Big Turn On and saw the star perform a number of songs from her platinum selling album ‘The Alesha Show.’

Speaking ahead of the event, Nissan’s Marketing Director, Steve McLennan said: “The Big Turn On Campaign is one of a number of Nissan initiatives to drive change for a low-carbon, sustainable future.

“Through the Spinnaker Tower turn on, we aim to raise awareness of the low-carbon benefits of 100% electric vehicles and to encourage motorists to understand that they can do their bit for the environment without compromising on style and power on the roads.”

The Nissan LEAF not only helps families cut down their carbon emissions, it also saves money on fuel bills with running costs of less than 2p per mile and by delivering the equivalent of 365mpg.*   The 100% electric car takes from just 30 minutes** to charge.

The Big Turn On Campaign follows Nissan’s sponsorship of Climate Week, for which the manufacturer is the official vehicle provider.
