2012 Washington Auto Show presents Policy Preview for Industry, Government and Media

Washington Auto Show 20122012 Washington Auto Show presents Policy Preview for Industry, Government and Media followed by Consumer Bonanza of Cars, Stars and Fun!

In 2012, The Washington Auto Show®, the public policy show on the global auto show circuit, will launch its Public Policy Preview Events with the National Journal Live Policy Summit.

The multi-panel summit, produced by National Journal, takes place at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 25 in the Cannon House Office Building. Preview events, geared toward officials in industry, government, and media, continue with a full day of special events on Thursday, Jan. 26 at the show site, The Walter E. Washington Convention Center. Dave Zuchowski, executive vice president of sales for Hyundai Motor America, will deliver the keynote address, and U.S. Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood will also be speaking. That evening, Roger Penske will receive the Keith Crain/Automotive News Lifetime Achievement Award at a special event keynoted by GM President Mark Reuss.

Produced by the Washington Area New Automobile Dealers Association (WANADA), The Washington Auto Show opens to the public on Friday, Jan. 27. The ten-day show is the largest public show in Washington and the “tier-one” auto show displaying more green cars and technologies than any other. In 2012, the show will again host the “Advanced Technology SuperHighway,” a 65,000-square-foot display of the latest innovations in safety and sustainability, from clean diesel to biofuels and electric vehicles.

The show has become a beloved annual tradition among Washingtonians, who marvel at the growing display of cutting-edge technologies, contests and giveaways, new vehicles and celebrities. More than 700 new vehicles from over 42 domestic and import manufacturers will fill the 750,000-square-foot space with two levels of advanced exhibits. The show will also host Redskins DeAngelo Hall and Lorenzo Alexander, Caps Brooks Laich and John Carlson, traditional Chinese lion and dragon dancers to celebrate the Chinese New Year and PBS characters from the hit TV show “SuperWhy!”

This year, The Washington Auto Show is pleased to present a special “Welcome Home Troops!” celebration on Tuesday, Jan. 31. The program will feature appearances by J.R. Martinez, the Iraq war veteran and newly-crowned champion of “Dancing with the Stars” and WWE® Legend Sgt. Slaughter™ as well as a musical performance by the “Downrange” pop ensemble of the U.S. Army Band “Pershing’s Own.”
